This is spot on. This is how you adapt to the current portal situation. The 9-13 kids become bodies for practice. Hahaha. So you want to start every season with 8 D1 basketball players and 5 practice bodies? And you think that’s a good idea? Starting the season with zero depth and no margin for error? OK…so what happens when 1 of those 8 guys that can actually play at this level gets pissed and leaves after the first exhibition game…and then another guy from that top 8 leaves the team in the middle of the non-conference schedule…? You still happy at that point that you wasted 5 rides on a bunch of “practice bodies”? In an ideal world absolutely not, but there will be some talented kids available in the portal year in and year out and the coaches will need to be able to recruit in or around the portal. I believe along with the kids from Europe we've been able to recruit, there's not too many choices. The guys we do develop to become All MVC players will most likely head to a bigger program. There lies the rub. I'd love to have 14 guys we could throw in a game and make an impact. Now that is not reality even for the top college teams.

There is a lot of faith being put on Zek Montgomery being a difference making, all league level player and Corey Thomas being a decent/good MVC center. I am probably in the minority in Zek - but I also like Burch a fair amount. Of course every team in the league has a ton of questions as well. Bradley will still be favored to win the league by a big margin. In next year’s MVC I see nothing stopping Zek from being at least a second team all MVC level player. Last years Valley would be a different story. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I hope you are right...I was really optimistic about Zek's upside based on his progression from his freshman to sophomore years here at BU...but he didn't show any growth as a junior at URI, and it's harder now for me to see him as having a "next level" that he can get to in his last season of college hoops. It feels much more likely to me that "he is what he is" at this point...a nice player...a guy that maybe averages 9-10 points a game with a few huge games in there and a handful where he doesn't do a thing... I'm glad we have him...I think he has a great mix of size and athletic ability and he should be a good part of our rotation...I'm just not sure I see him averaging 15+ ppg here as a senior...which is probably what it will take to make 2nd team All-Valley... Again...really hope you are right...I just don't know that he's got that extra gear in him at this point...

He will be back in a role where he was at the end of 22-23 here. I could see him putting up Hickman-ish offensive numbers. Without the Hickman defense, yet.

I would sign up for last season's non-conference Zek right now (14 games):
FG - 62-134 46.2% 3PT - 15-43 34.8% FT - 34-50 68.0% 12.4 PPG / 4.6 RPG / 2.1 APG

I was just coming to enter this. They also have an incoming transfer from Around the Green Bay area that sounded good. Oh well. PS any chance our assistant is in on this job?

Was also coming here to mention this as well. Just seems obvious to me. There’s been a ton of smoke surrounding Jimmie Foster this off-season . To the point where the “other board” declared that he had left Bradley for Wisconsin as assistant coach. While he interviewed and there were rumors - nothing has been determined as of yet. it’s primarily been kept off of this board because there’s no certainty with anything. I’d imagine Foster may be considered for UWGB, but time will tell.

I wonder if there were whispers and negotiations in advance of the UWGB contract buyout that caused Foster to put on the UW brakes and begin his own negotiations for the UWGB top job?

I really like coach Foster - but he’s not going to be a strong candidate for the UWGB job. I would be REALLY surprised if he is considered.

I would love to know if he was interested in Bradley or not.

I would love to know if he was interested in Bradley or not. Certainly not one to have direct knowledge, but I assume we would have tried to stay in that one. No shame in losing to a Washington State, despite their weird conference situation and coach change. That guy shows attack the rim ability, which I think is way up on attributes we need. We got beat solidly on free throw differential last year, and Leons really picked up his aggression and willingness to play to contact last year. So, I don’t know that we sufficiently patched over that, and might even have more issues there. Seems like Burch will have that if he emerges and grows. Thomas got to the line some. Hannah has improved FT shooting and maybe with more confidence in it, could draw contact more via slashing from the mid post and such. Don’t see any sure things that way, like a DLO style player to pick up some ugly points when defenses are really playing us well.

I really wanted Thrastarson, so we could continue trying to corner the market on Scandinavian basketball players. We probably couldn't afford him.
