Canada has removed their women's soccer coach from the competition for using a drone to spy on an opponent's practice.
While I called that there would be a drone cheating scandal, I did not expect it to be the Canadians.🤣

FIFA have deducted the Canada women's soccer team 6 points and 3 coaches, including their head coach who was already dismissed, have been banned from soccer for one year.

Couple other stories from today:
-IOC has apologized to South Korea as they were announced as being the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" (also known as the official name for North Korea) during yesterday's opening ceremony.
-One of the Italian flagbearers apologized to their wife in an Instagram post after his wedding ring slipped off and fell into the Seine during the parade of nations.

Peacock has a subchannel during this year's Olympics called Gold Zone. Basically an Olympic version of the NFL Redzone channel where they jump around to different events and go live to medal matches in some of the individual events like fencing and judo. And for those of you like me that like Redzone, both Scott Hanson and Andrew Siciliano are among the studio hosts for Gold Zone.

NBC just showed the 100 meter breaststroke men's final from earlier today. Absolutely insane finish. The top 3 finished within .02 seconds of another, including a tie for 2nd. The top 4 finished within .08 seconds of each other and the top 6 were within .29 seconds of each other.

USMNT just beat Guinea in a convincing manner 3-0 and now will face Morocco in the knock round. Morocco won their group which Argentina was a part. I like our chances. Today's game showed that this team can score. The front three were playing with a ton of confidence.

EIU alum and Boody, IL native Lauren Doyle was part of the past 2 rugby sevens U.S. Olympic teams and this one but neither of those previous teams medaled. At one time, EIU was one of a handful of schools that sponsored women's rugby as a D-I program rather than just a club team. |

Prior to these Olympics, Ireland had only ever had one swimmer medal in swimming in the 100 years that they had been sending swimmers to the Summer Olympics. They've had 2 swimmers in the last 2 days that have won medals, including Daniel Wiffen, who won a gold medal in the men's 800 meter freestyle, the first gold of any kind that an Irish men's swimmer has ever won.

Egyptian sabre fencer Nada Hafez announced on her Instagram account that she was seven months pregnant while competing in this year's Olympics. She won her first match before losing in the Round of 16 in her section of the draw.
