The list of 11 that Eminian wrote about is wildly uninspiring.

The list of 11 that Eminian wrote about is wildly uninspiring. Yeah, it does. I see the appeal of your recommendation to sit at 11. Don’t get swept up in the divisive non football vs football and private vs public stuff for now and risk pushing anyone towards a decision. Work with non-football schools in the background for when and if an ISU, SIU, UNI decides that getting an occasional Weds night football game on ESPNU is too much to pass up, and at the point the proper long term lane for the MVC will have been forced upon them.

Why am I not surprised? This was a given for a few years. I like the idea of forming a new conference between a few MVC teams and the A-10. Make an east and west division. That is what I'd be working on secretly. Problem most likely is that Loyola and SLU would want nothing to do with us or Drake. Perhaps you just create a conference from a bunch of other teams regardless of conference. You start off with talking to Drake to see what their appetite would be and start there. The BU and Drake package. Perhaps you add Belmont to that mix.
BU just can't sit on their hands anymore and rely on the MVC's past reputation. That ship has sailed. I also believe the A-10 in another few years will be much of the same. They just have less fat to cut. You need solid schools with a positive financial standing to make the next round of basketball relevancy discussion. The portal along with the NIL is dictating where NCAA basketball is heading.

As far as Bradley and the other privates go, if all of the football schools eventually leave there's only 1 play, a merger with the Horizon League.

I’d guess that Loyola and SLU would much prefer having a few additional teams in the western flank compared to the current conference construct. That would help reduce costs of the non-revenue generating sports. IMO ideal scenario for BU would be to stay strong with Drake, Belmont and maybe a school like St. Thomas and keep pitching to the A10 a western division to join SLU and Loyola. I think by the time the next round of moves are announced and begin to be enacted, the shape of a future DI split will be much clearer.
And then there will be a much more reasonable realignment that shakes out at the lower DI level.
