We all need a place to discuss MOMENTUM!!
Anyway, I saw this Tweet and really liked it so I wanted to post it here and maybe basketball strategy related discussions can be had here. Now, much of the data (like this graph) is from the NBA where there is a lot more data, better players, etc. Obviously. So one to one comparisons aren't always safe. But a big one is the "quick two" idea that SOOOOO many commentators talk about getting late in a game when you are down three or more. It's gotten ridiculed a lot on NBA Twitter. All it does is possibly prolong the game - it doesn't increase your chances of winning. Here is a good chart breaking things down.

I can see where shooting 3s makes sense in the NBA because the players are such proficient and prolific shooters. College shooters aren't nearly as efficient from three so I doubt this statistic holds true if data were available at the college level. That said, I hate the foulfest and free throw shooting contest at the end of a close college game and would love some kind of rule change to reign it in, even more than what has already been implemented.
