Figuratively and literally basketball just lost a giant of the game. I can't think of a time anyone has said anything negatively about him. He was also a big Deadhead.

The best thing to watch, especially in the more recent years, was how Dave Pasch and Jason Benetti (when he was still working with ESPN) basically had to play the straight man to Walton's antics.

Walton was arguably the second best college center of all time. I did not even realize he had been sick...such a true warrior to the end.

I always thought he was nothing more than a conceited blowhard at least on college broadcasts. Great (legendary) player and funny character. But sucked the air out of any broadcast with interruptive behavior just to tell some stupid, irrelevant story about himself.

There is a little bit of cruel irony that he passes shortly after the final event in Pac-12 history.
