Braves open the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Thursday against Texas State (2-2).
A quick look at the rest of the field:
The winner/loser of the Bradley game will get the winner/loser of Princeton and Wright State.
Princeton is off to a very good start at 4-1 with the loss to Loyola Chicago (4-0) and wins over Iona, Duquesne, Northeastern and Merrimack.
Wright State is 3-2 with 2 non-DI wins, a blowout loss (40 points) at Kentucky, a win at Miami Oh and a loss at Toledo.
On the other half of the bracket, Ohio is 1-3, but a fairly tough schedule (losses to James Madison, Illinois State and Memphis - all true road games), and the win over UNC Asheville. Their opponent MTSU is 3-1 with comfortable wins over Evansville, Abilene Christian and a non-DI. Interesting matchup.
South Florida has struggled out of the gate a little bit, starting just 2-2 following the shocking passing of their head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim just before the start of the season. They lost on a neutral floor to Florida and at Charleston in their first two games, but then returned home and comfortably defeated Arkansas Pine Bluff and West Georgia. Their opponent Portland appears to really be up or down randomly. At 2-2, they have a non-DI win, a 40-point loss at home to UC Santa Barbara, an OT loss at Oregon, and a 2-point win at Long Beach State. So a couple of real wild card teams here.
For SOS purposes, without question we want a Princeton-South Florida path.

Texas state could be formidable opponent. We should win handle though. If we end up playing Princeton and they play like they did against Merrimac we should be able to play with and beat them. Still have to palt the games and clean up some things. Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk

Texas State doesn't have any freshmen and only two sophomores. A bunch of jucos and fifth year seniors. They even have a sixth year player.
It looks like Duke Deen was teammates with Christian Turner (5ppg, 5rpg) at Troy.
In their last game against Abilene Christian, four players played at least 35 minutes.

Texas State has been hampered by injuries, resulting in those players each playing over 35 minutes/game. They only had 2 scholarship guards available for their loss against ACU. Their third available guard is a walk-on. Junior guard Coleton Benson (8.1ppg) was in a full leg brace. Sophomore transfer guard Franck Emmou (7.9ppg last year at UMBC) is in a walking boot. Senior guard Dylan Dawson (10.3ppg) dislocated his shoulder last week. Senior forward Tyrel Morgan (14ppg last year) took a bad fall 2 games ago and didn’t play last game due to a shoulder/neck injury. Junior guard Mark Drone hasn’t dressed for a game all year. They might get a couple of these guys back by Thursday, but there’s absolutely no reason to lose this game.

Does Princeton still play the same deliberate style as years past? Anyway the team needs to clean up on their turnovers.

Caden Pierce was part of an absolutely loaded team at Glenbard West a few years ago that had all 5 starters plus their 6th man that all played at some level of D-I basketball. If memory serves, the 6th man was a PWO at U of I his freshman year and then transferred to D-II Lewis University.

It looks like Bradley is a -6.5 point favorite heading into the first game of the tournament.
ESPN BPI gives Bradley a 74.3% chance to beat Texas State

You might be mixing him up with one of his brothers who played at William & Mary and transferred to UNC for his senior year. He may have spent some time at Lewis but didn't play. His "before Princeton" page makes no reference to other institutions and his name on the roster doesn't list any transfer institutions. Talented family, as there's a third brother that plays in the NFL as a receiver for the Colts. Or maybe there is another brother somewhere in the lineage.

Braves won their tournament last year and won another in 2019, along with the UTEP tourney in 2022, their first holiday tournament wins going back to 1969.
But all of those were four-team neutral floor events (with the exception of the UTEP final).
The Braves have not won an 8-team bracketed holiday tournament.
They went 0-3 in 2022 losing to Colorado State, Brown and Duquesne. They went 2-1 in 2018, losing their opener against Vermont, but then defeated UTSA and Weber State. 1-2 in 2017, losing to Hofstra, beating Wofford and then losing to George Mason. And then another 0-fer in 2016, losing to Virginia, Seton Hall and Towson.
Time to put another feather in Wardle's cap.

Tyrel Morgan is back in the lineup for Texas State after missing the last couple games. 6-5 F averaging 8ppg. Averaged 14 last year.

South Florida beat Portland, but only by 6 points. Win and put yourself in the good half of the bracket.

That handoff turnover by Almar was horrendous.

That handoff turnover by Almar was horrendous. He’s really not been too good in that Dribble Handoff role so far.

Nice response. We finally made a few more shots, then they started making a few but now we have our largest lead.
